Our Interim Pastor

Pastor Dwight Mason

Reverend Dwight Mason was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pa. Since a little child, his life was surrounded by his grandparents, Reverend Nannie L. Lewis and Deacon Henry L. Lewis. At the age of 9 years old, he developed a strong desire to play the piano in church. During his high school years, he was very active in the music department and a member of the Simon Gratz HS choir. In 1969, he graduated and went to Temple University as a music education majoring in voice.  He later went on to sing with the Philadelphia Mass Choir, which was part of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, and the pianist for the Anderson Chorale Ensemble at the Second Shiloh Baptist Church for 8 years.  Then in March 1973 he became the minister of music for the church founded by his grandparents, Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ and served for 25 years.

During this period in his life, he served faithfully as the State Minister of Music for the Keystone Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ of Pennsylvania. However, God had a higher calling on his life and called him into the ministry in October of 1979. On August 24, 1982, he was ordained as an Elder in the Church of God in Christ. He continued to work in his church and was consecrated as the assistant pastor of the Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ.

In 1978, he met Danielle Juliet Jones. They were married on December 20, 1980, and to this union they were blessed with 3 daughters, Brittiany, Whitney and Porscha. On the first Sunday in October of 1997, the Lord spoke to Elder Mason and said “It’s Time” to launch out and raise the ministry that was about to be born, “United Faith and Deliverance Ministries, Inc., and that ministry flourished for 5 years and the corporation still exist today.

In December of 2002, the Lord began to change the physical direction of the ministry, and the time came to move on. The Lord led Pastor Mason to meet with Patricia A. Davenport, Pastor of the Spirit and Truth Worship Center of the ELCA in Yeadon, Pa. From that meeting, United Faith and Deliverance Ministries came together with Spirit and Truth to worship together as (2) churches in one location in February of 2003.  While attending Spirit and Truth Worship Center, pastor Mason utilized his gift as an accomplished musician and served as the minister of music for 5 years.

In November of 2004, Pastor Mason entered the candidacy process for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod, Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

and on September 1, 2008, he received a synodical appointment as the pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia. He was approved by the candidacy committee on May 14, 2009, and ordained into the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and installed as the official pastor on November 1, 2009, based on a synodical call.

In June of 2011 after pending the completion of the 3-year term call from the Synod, the congregation of Good Shepherd voted to offer a permanent part-time call to Pastor Mason as the first Black African American pastor called by the congregation. He worked and pastored this congregation of Good Shepherd reaching out to the un-churched individuals and families from all ethnic backgrounds in the community up until the congregation voted to close on August 25, 2019.

In November 2015, the Lord opened another door for Pastor Mason to also become the pastor of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in the Mantua section of Philadelphia, Pa. on a part-time contractual basis. Pastor Mason continued to travel between both congregations and building up the kingdom of God in both locations.  Effective December 31, 2019, by the leading of the Holy Spirit it was time to move on, and pastor Mason resigned from the part time position at Grace Lutheran Church.

In January of 2020 through the assistance of a colleague, Pastor Mason connected with the New Jersey Synod under the leadership of Bishop Tracee Bartholomew and was placed on the supply list. From that intervention, Pastor Mason was assigned to various congregations to lead worship on Sunday mornings on a quarterly basis. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many congregations discontinued with in house worship and being a supply pastor was put on hold. In the beginning of 2021, congregations started to have in-house worship under CDC guidelines and the opportunities opened back up for supply. In March of 2021, Pastor Mason was assigned by the New Jersey Synod to the Lutheran Church of St. Ambrose in Pennsville, New Jersey as the supply pastor. In September of 2021 by the leading of the Holy Spirit, Pastor Mason accepted 1 year position as Interim Pastor. Then in July of 2022, Pastor Mason was called by St. Ambrose Lutheran Church as the senior pastor.

Pastor Mason and his family began ministry at Ambrose by working with the council and congregation. Pastor Mason along with Lady Danielle Mason became connected with the Pennsville Food Pantry which served over 300 families each month. He became the president of the board due to previous experience that Lady Mason and he had while pastoring in Philadelphia. The food pantry was so successful and later became known as the Tri-County Community Food Pantry. Him and Lady Mason worked diligently with the church to promote events, fund raising, and the growth of the congregation. Pastor Mason also worked with the other congregations in the community and was a supportive member in the ministerium of Pennsville, New Jersey.

In the latter spring of 2025 after much prayer and confirmation from God, pastor Mason and family relocated to Florida on October 1, 2026 and transferred to the Florida-Bahama Synod of the ELCA.

To God Be the Glory!
